"It's resilience," Shelton reveals the keys to his success in Toronto
Ben Shelton advanced to the final of the Toronto Masters 1000 by defeating his compatriot Taylor Fritz with a score of 6-4, 6-3. However, he came close to defeat twice, winning two matches in a final-set tiebreak.
In a press conference, he explained his success in Toronto: "It's resilience. Tonight, things were easier because everything was working well.
But the most important victories are the ones where not everything goes right. Finding a way to overcome those tough matches where I’m down a break in the third set, or when my opponent is serving for the match and I’m at risk of being knocked out of the tournament—those are the wins that are truly special to me."
Shelton will face Karen Khachanov in the final. If he wins the title, the American could rise to world No. 6, overtaking Novak Djokovic.
