"The combination between the balls and the court is pretty ugly," Fritz slams Toronto's playing conditions in turn

After winning his quarterfinal against Rublev (6-3, 7-6), Fritz attended a press conference. When asked by journalists about his opponent's comments regarding the playing conditions in Toronto, the American doubled down:
"It's a combination of the court and the balls. I think if we were playing with Dunlop, we’d feel better because the ball would come off slower and we’d have more control. This combination of conditions is pretty ugly because sometimes you make mistakes that don’t make sense, and that’s because it’s hard to get a clean contact with the ball.
Not today, but I’ve had matches this week where some balls flew several meters long. These balls aren’t bad, but it becomes really tough to play when you combine them with such a fast court."
For a spot in the final, he will face his compatriot Ben Shelton. The two have only met once on tour: in the second round of the 2023 Indian Wells Masters 1000. Back then, Fritz got the better of his younger opponent (6-4, 6-3).
