"It's the easiest path to reach the semifinals of an ATP 500," joked Karue Sell, Moutet's opponent in the Washington qualifiers

Corentin Moutet has qualified for the semifinals of the ATP 500 tournament in Washington. Guaranteed to break into the top 50 next Monday, the 26-year-old Frenchman staged a stunning comeback against Daniil Medvedev in a wild match (1-6, 6-4, 6-4 in 2h24).
Moutet continues his underdog run. After losing in the final round of qualifying to Wu Yibing (4-6, 6-4, 6-4), the left-hander was granted a lucky loser spot at the last minute following Holger Rune's withdrawal.
Entering directly into the second round, Moutet then took full advantage, defeating compatriot Alexandre Muller (6-0, 6-1), Daniel Evans (6-2, 7-6), and finally Daniil Medvedev (1-6, 6-4, 6-4).
In recent hours, Karue Sell, the Brazilian player ranked 283rd in the world, posted a message on his X (formerly Twitter) account about Moutet's performance in the tournament. For context, Moutet had eliminated him in the first round of qualifying (6-4, 6-2).
"This is the easiest way to reach the semifinals of an ATP 500: beat me in the first round of qualifying, lose the next match, get in as a lucky loser, and make the semifinals," the Brazilian quipped sarcastically.
Known for his numerous YouTube videos, Sell currently has 176,000 subscribers. In terms of results, he has now lost five of his last six matches.
