Ivanov, 16, Wins US Open Juniors Against His Compatriot Vasilev
The US Open boys' junior tournament concluded early in the day in New York.
The final featured two Bulgarians: Ivan Ivanov, the No. 1 seed and winner of the Wimbledon juniors in July, against Alexander Vasilev, ranked No. 7 in the junior rankings.
Having lost only one set on his way to the final, Ivanov continued his momentum by winning 7-5, 6-3 in 1 hour and 13 minutes of play. At 16, he became the 9th player in the Open Era to win back-to-back Wimbledon and US Open junior titles.
Ivanov thus follows in the footsteps of his compatriot Grigor Dimitrov, who achieved such a feat during his breakthrough in the juniors in 2008.
