Lorenzo Musetti has never been closer to returning to victory. Two years after his last triumph on the ATP circuit (an all-Italian duel won against Matteo Berrettini in Naples), the talent from Carrara is offered another chance at glory by reaching the Chengdu final for the second consecutive year.
Facing Alexander Shevchenko in the semi-final, Musetti delivered an almost perfect match. A demonstration of mastery that confirms his rise during this Asian tour which he "planned around Chengdu" as he himself confides. His goal: to scrape every point, build his confidence, and get back in the race for the ATP Race, still open for some prestigious spots.
In the final, Lorenzo Musetti will face Alejandro Tabilo, the surprise guest of a tournament marked by twists and turns. The Chilean, coming from the qualifiers, has delivered XXL performances, notably eliminating Luciano Darderi, the No. 2 seed.
An unprecedented duel on the main circuit, although Musetti largely dominated him (6-2, 6-0) during a Challenger in 2021, but the context is entirely different today. Tabilo comes in strong, confident, unpredictable.
