"Jack thinks I'm the best mixed doubles player on the tour," Pegula stated when discussing Draper
The top-seeded pair in the US Open's new mixed doubles format, Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper, have advanced to the semifinals with wins against Raducanu/Alcaraz and then Andreeva/Medvedev.
For a spot in the final, the American and the Brit will face the third-seeded pair, Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud. In a press conference, Pegula reflected on her partnership with Draper during this Fan Week in New York.
"We're happy that our collaboration is working. We've beaten two very strong pairs, and the spectators in the stands enjoyed the moment. Two matches, two wins, but above all, everything is going well between us—what more could you ask for? Jack (Draper) thinks I'm the best mixed doubles player on the tour!
The fans showed up, the stadium was completely full. I think it's important to thank everyone because they also contributed to making this new experience even more impressive.
It was a lot of fun, especially with all those completely wild shots from Carlos (Alcaraz). The crowd went crazy. In my case, I've played a lot of doubles matches in my career, but not so many recently.
It's always challenging, especially in this mixed doubles format. You're facing players who don't usually compete in this discipline. It was very exciting. Jack was great.
We're really looking forward to finishing this tournament," concluded the 31-year-old Pegula after qualifying for the semifinals alongside Draper, speaking to Punto de Break media.
