Jacquemot dominates Sakkari, Paquet misses the mark in the first round at Roland-Garros

Two new French players were on the courts of Roland-Garros this Tuesday for the continuation and end of the first round of the women's singles. Invited by the tournament organization, Elsa Jacquemot made good use of her wild card.
The 22-year-old French player, ranked 138th in the world, achieved one of the day's standout performances by eliminating Maria Sakkari, a former world number 3. Jacquemot started her match perfectly with a double break right away. She ultimately managed to hold onto it, finishing the set with a successful return game.
The second set, however, was much tighter. Sakkari even served to level the match at one set each, but Jacquemot hung on and came back, winning in the tiebreak after a double fault by her opponent.
For the second time in her career, after 2022, she reaches the second round at Roland-Garros and will face Karolina Muchova or Alycia Parks. As for Sakkari, now ranked 90th in the world, she remains the last player to have defeated Iga Swiatek in this tournament in 2021, but has struggled to regain her form.
Despite reaching the round of 16 in Madrid, the Greek player exits in the first round at Porte d'Auteuil for the third time in a row. On the other hand, Chloé Paquet will not progress further this year. Beaten in the third round last year, the French player fell to Tereza Valentova.
While leading 5-3 30-0 on her serve in the third and final set, the 30-year-old player couldn't close out, and the 18-year-old Czech qualifier took advantage to come back and win the last five games of the match. She will face Coco Gauff in the next round.
