"I won this match mentally," Jacquemot reflects on her victory against Sakkari at Roland-Garros

Elsa Jacquemot is one of the three Frenchwomen who will advance to the second round of the 2025 Roland-Garros edition, alongside Loïs Boisson and Léolia Jeanjean. The 22-year-old delivered an impressive performance by defeating Maria Sakkari, a former world No. 3, in straight sets (6-3, 7-6).
The Greek player had served to win the second set, but Jacquemot fought back and secured the victory after her opponent double-faulted. Speaking to the French Tennis Federation media, the Lyon native reflected on her prestigious win.
"It wasn’t an easy match—she plays incredibly well. In the end, it was really tight, going to a tiebreak. I managed to stay positive, calm, and clear-headed. I’m happy I pulled through.
This victory is one of the best of my career. I think I fought well. Tennis-wise, I played a good match today. I won this one mentally, but it was definitely a tough battle. I love the French crowd.
When they cheer us on like that, especially in the tense moments, it helps a lot. I think I’m having a pretty good tournament. I received a wild card, so I’m already happy to have the invitation.
I’ve already won my first-round match, so I’ll take it one match at a time. I know there’s another big match coming up the day after tomorrow (against Parks, who defeated Muchova), so I’ll try to prepare well tomorrow (Wednesday)," Jacquemot analyzed.
