Boisson Creates Upset Against Mertens and Wins Her First Match at Roland-Garros

Loïs Boisson had a score to settle with fate.
Last year, the French player suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her knee, forcing her to miss her first Roland-Garros.
A year later, Boisson has begun her climb back up the rankings, recently winning the Saint-Gaudens tournament and securing a wildcard entry into the main draw of the year’s second Grand Slam.
Drawn against Elise Mertens, the 22-year-old, ranked 361st, knew the challenge would be immense. Fueled by the electric atmosphere on Court 14, she rose to the occasion, winning in three sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-3), thanks in part to 27 winners and an 83% first-serve points won rate.
After securing her first-ever victory at Roland-Garros, she will face world No. 113 Anhelina Kalinina in the second round.
