Jacquemot Falls in Quarterfinals of WTA 250 Cleveland Tournament
There are no more French players left in contention at the WTA 250 Cleveland tournament. After Loïs Boisson's defeat in her opening match against Jil Teichmann, Elsa Jacquemot managed to qualify for the quarterfinals with wins over Zhu Lin (6-3, 6-1) and Solana Sierra (7-5, 7-6).
However, the 22-year-old qualifier will not be playing the first semifinal of her career on the WTA tour. Currently ranked 98th in the world, Jacquemot was eliminated just short of the final four by Ann Li (6-1, 5-7, 6-1).
The American, ranked 69th globally, who defeated Starodubtseva and Jovic in the earlier rounds, will now face Wang Xinyu, the tournament's second seed, for a spot in the final. The other semifinal matchup will feature Sorana Cirstea, who upset the tournament's top seed Samsonova (6-4, 6-1), against Anastasia Zakharova, who advanced due to Eva Lys's withdrawal.
