Jarry, injured in the foot, withdraws from Indian Wells
Nicolas Jarry is having a string of bad news this week. Defeated in the first round at home during the Santiago tournament by Camilo Ugo Carabelli (5-7, 6-3, 7-6), the Chilean will not be able to immediately proceed with hard court competitions.
Injured during his match against the Argentine on Tuesday, Jarry, ranked 45th in the world and who couldn't make a significant run in front of the Chilean crowd, announced in recent hours that he will not be able to participate in the Indian Wells tournament starting on March 5th.
"During Tuesday's match, I fractured the little toe on my right foot. I only realized this on Wednesday morning.
After consulting with my doctors, I have to rest and therefore won't be able to play at Indian Wells. I'm really sorry for not being able to play there because it caught me completely by surprise and I was playing better and better.
But the important thing is to stop now and recover well so I can get back to training as soon as possible with the maximum guarantees," he explained to ESPN.
A withdrawal that benefits Learner Tien. The young 19-year-old American had received an invitation from the organizers, but Jarry's injury allows him to enter directly into the draw. Thus, the wild card granted to Tien should benefit another player.
