Kafelnikov: "It's a disgrace what's happening to tennis".
Yevgeny Kafelnikov is known for taking a stand on the hot topics of the moment. He obviously reacted to Iga Swiatek's doping case, suspended for a month after contamination with trimetazidine.
The Russian, former winner of the Australian Open and Roland Garros, ironized the situation on his X account, before drawing a strong conclusion about the somewhat tarnished reputation of current tennis:
"Sometimes I wonder... 'Why the hell didn't I use steroids during my career, so I could play, instead of 170 matches in a year, maybe 300?'
It's really a shame what's happening to tennis."
Indeed, 2024 will remain a very special year, with the positive tests of the two world No. 1s (Swiatek was top of the WTA rankings at the time of her test) on both the men's and women's circuits.
