After a one-sided first set and strong serving efficiency, Kasatkina saw the Spaniard raise her level of play to push her in the second set—but to no avail, as the Australian triumphed in straight sets. She will face Andreeva in the round of 16.

Following recurring back issues, the Spaniard has been working to regain form in recent months. She had to battle through her first two matches in the capital, first against Osaka and then Ruse. Typically strong on this surface, she notably reached the quarterfinals in Paris back in 2021.
