Kenin Reaches Charleston Final: "Everything Feels Easier When You Have the Right Mindset"

This season, Sofia Kenin has regained her top form. Currently ranked 44th in the WTA, the American—who won the Australian Open in 2020—has secured a spot in the Charleston WTA 500 final after defeating Belinda Bencic, Daria Kasatkina, Anna Kalinskaya, and Amanda Anisimova (who retired).
Temporarily back in the top 35, the 26-year-old Kenin hasn’t dropped a single set this week and will face Jessica Pegula for the title.
In a press conference, Sofia Kenin reflected on her recent performances, crediting her increased participation in doubles tournaments for improving multiple aspects of her game.
"When I play like this, I feel like I’m skating on ice and moving well. Physically, I’m in great shape. I’m just really happy. The week has been very positive—everything feels easier when you have the right mindset. I’m just very pleased with how I’ve been playing lately.
Playing doubles helps you work a lot on serves and returns. You come to the net more often. It’s given me more confidence on the court. I’m really happy with what it’s brought to my game and the tennis I’ve been able to produce this year in singles.
I prefer two-week tournaments because you get a day off between matches. But this week in Charleston, I’m ready to give it my all. I’m in ‘machine mode,’ and I’m very grateful for the support I’ve received from everyone," she told Punto De Break.
