Pegula Claims Her Second Title of the Season in Charleston
In an all-American final, Jessica Pegula won the 53rd edition of the WTA 500 in Charleston this Sunday. The world No. 4 and tournament’s top seed managed to dominate Sofia Kenin in straight sets (6-3, 7-5) after 1 hour and 26 minutes of play.
Trailing 5-1 in the second set, Pegula avoided a third set by winning six consecutive games to secure the eighth title of her career and her very first on clay.
The winner of her second tournament this year after Austin, along with two other finals played (Auckland and Miami), she is the player with the most wins on the tour this season (25).
Tomorrow, she will reclaim the world No. 3 ranking at the expense of her compatriot Coco Gauff.
