Keys, Andreeva, Pegula: The Night's Results to Remember in Miami

While the men's draw had a lively day in Miami, the WTA circuit is also present in Florida, competing in the second tournament of the Sunshine Double. Although several seeded players had already been eliminated the day before, including Elena Rybakina, Liudmila Samsonova, and Ekaterina Alexandrova, the action continued this Friday.
Many top players were on the courts, and the expected outcomes were largely respected in almost all matches. Australian Open champion Madison Keys, a semifinalist at Indian Wells, made a strong start at the WTA 1000 in Miami.
The world No. 5 comfortably defeated Elina Avanesyan (6-3, 6-3) and will face Alexandra Eala, who delivered the day's standout performance by eliminating Jelena Ostapenko (7-6, 7-5).
The Latvian, a finalist in Doha in February, has since struggled to maintain consistent form and exited early in Miami, as she did in Indian Wells, where she couldn't progress beyond the second round. The 25th seed has now suffered four consecutive losses on the main tour since her victory over Iga Swiatek in the semifinals in Qatar.
The breakout star of recent weeks, Mirra Andreeva, continues her impressive run. The 17-year-old Russian, who won the last two WTA 1000 tournaments in Dubai and Indian Wells, had no trouble dispatching Veronika Kudermetova (6-0, 6-2). She will face Amanda Anisimova for a spot in the round of 16.
Jessica Pegula also advanced. The American, ranked fourth in the world and a recent winner in Austin before being eliminated by Elina Svitolina in the round of 16 at Indian Wells, bounced back. She defeated her compatriot Bernarda Pera (6-4, 6-4) and will face Anna Kalinskaya in the third round.
Other notable results include Paula Badosa's victory over Victoria Mboko (7-5, 1-6, 7-6), Karolina Muchova advancing due to Victoria Azarenka's retirement, and Elina Svitolina's swift win in a duel between new moms against Belinda Bencic (6-1, 6-2). The Ukrainian will face Muchova in the next round on Sunday.
