Swiatek Wins Again Against Garcia in Miami

Two weeks after facing off at Indian Wells in the second round, Iga Swiatek and Caroline Garcia met again this Friday in Miami, at the same stage of the competition.
And just like in California, it was the world No. 2 who emerged victorious from this match (6-2, 7-5), although the score was much less severe on the court of the Hard Rock Stadium.
The first set, wrapped up in half an hour by the Polish player, hinted at another heavy defeat for Garcia. But the world No. 74, who was defending points from her quarterfinal run last year, put up a strong resistance in the second set, even leading 3-1 with serve to follow.
However, Swiatek quickly regained her composure, breaking back immediately, before making the difference at 5-5, greatly aided by the net cord that allowed her to break on a backhand attack.
Calm and never really in danger on her service games, Swiatek will face Elise Mertens or Peyton Stearns in the third round.
Garcia, on the other hand, will drop in the rankings and flirt with falling out of the Top 100, as she will be ranked no higher than 99th in the world after the tournament.
