Keys saves match point against Swiatek to reach the Australian Open final
Who will face Aryna Sabalenka in the final? The Belarusian was the first to book her place in the final in Melbourne.
She will face either Madison Keys or Iga Swiatek. After an indecisive start to the match, with break after break, it was the Polish player who finally made the difference, taking the first set 7 games to 5.
Madison Keys' reaction was swift, and with a double break quickly won at the start of the second set, the American logically snatched a decisive set.
From start to finish, this third set promised suspense right to the end, as neither player wanted to give up until 5-5.
Already 0-40 down on her previous service game, Keys, who had managed to come back to take the lead, found herself in the same position.
After saving the first two break points, she hit a drop shot that allowed Swiatek to break and serve for the match.
But the tense Pole was unable to close out the match, despite a match point (on which Keys returned her serve with a deep shot that troubled Swiatek).
The 2017 US Open finalist didn't give up, however, and rallied to contest a ten-point super tie-break.
The two players engaged in a fierce battle, and the gap in the score in this tie-break (which has never been so aptly named) was never more than two points.
Swiatek was in front for much of the time, taking advantage of Keys' errors down the line. The Polish player finished off the match with a volley to lead 8-7.
Madison Keys then made it three points in a row, thanks in particular to a first point found at the best of times.
A final fault by the Pole allowed the winner of this year's Adelaide tournament to express her joy. It was Keys who qualified for her second Grand Slam final (5-7, 6-1, 7-6).
She will face Aryna Sabalenka for the most prestigious title of her career, at almost 30 years of age.
On a lighter note, it's a good thing for me I don't gamble on tennis.
And also back in the top 10 again. Kudos 👏 👍
