Kokkinakis criticizes the ATP calendar: "There are too many tournaments that don't interest people".
Thanasi Kokkinakis is a big fan of the UTS. The Australian player has been a regular participant in events throughout the season and has just played in the UTS Finals in London over the last few days.
The 28-year-old is campaigning for more tournaments in this category throughout the season.
"I think they should work with the ATP to organize more events of this kind.
It would attract even more fans, spectators and it would give us more pleasure.
You know, tennis has only been one way for so long.
It's good that there can be this new, innovative format that allows fans to participate fully in tournaments," Kokkinakis elaborated for Tennis Head.
"It's a good thing for tennis. I hope that next time, the UTS Finals won't be so late in the season.
We also need to take a break, but I think the ATP needs to help and work with the UTS.
They're trying to shorten the calendar to make it a nine-month season, but it's going to take time for everything to change.
The year is too long, there are too many tournaments that don't interest people. Compared to other sports, nine months is already a long time.
A lot of things should change. I don't think there should be any tournaments after the Rolex Paris Masters, for example," he concluded.
