Laver Cup: Ruud ruthless against Opelka, Europe starts strong

Casper Ruud kicked off the 2025 Laver Cup with a victory over Reilly Opelka. A scenario almost identical to 2021 and an unforgiving statistic: five wins in five matches for the Norwegian against the American.
Europe is starting the 2025 Laver Cup on solid groundwork. Ruud, a member of the European team for the fifth consecutive year, earned the first point by defeating Reilly Opelka in a match without suspense (6-4, 7-6).
As in 2021, the two men faced off on the first day of the competition, and the score was almost identical (6-3, 7-6 at the time). This marks Ruud's fifth victory over Opelka in their face-offs and the Norwegian's fourth in this exhibition, only surpassed by Roger Federer (6) and Alexander Zverev (7).
The day continues in San Francisco with matches between Mensik-Michelsen, Cobolli-Fonseca, and the doubles Alcaraz/Mensik-Fritz/Michelsen.
