Many people didn't like Rafa when he first arrived on the tour," Simon shares his truths about fans' relationship with the Big 3

In an interview with Sportklub, Gilles Simon discussed the Big 3 and the shift in fan opinion regarding Rafael Nadal.
The Frenchman believes that Nadal, who very quickly became a rival to Roger Federer, began winning over fans when Novak Djokovic entered the rivalry:
"It's important to remember that Roger was the most beloved player. He might even have been the most loved of all time. Many fans didn't like Rafa when he first arrived on the tour.
But he started becoming more likable when Novak reached an elite level. I’m 100% certain about that. People began appreciating Rafa much more when he was compared to Novak rather than to Roger."
Simon also expressed admiration for Djokovic’s personality, for the following reason:
"At first, he was the villain. But he stayed true to himself, like when he refused to get vaccinated against Covid-19 even if it could hinder his pursuit of the Grand Slam titles record.
Early on, he wanted to please everyone, he sought attention, and it seemed a bit fake. Then he said to himself: 'This is who I am. I am Novak Djokovic. Whether you like it or not, I know who I am.' He gained a tremendous amount of respect because of that.
