Mass Disruption in Acapulco, Mainly Due to Food Poisoning
The Acapulco tournament lost all its headliners in one day.
Frances Tiafoe and Alexander Zverev were defeated by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Learner Tien, respectively.
However, it also seems that a gastro epidemic linked to food poisoning has been circulating in Acapulco.
Holger Rune retired after playing three games against Brandon Nakashima.
On X, he stated: "I am furious and so sad at the same time. I got food poisoning, and I couldn't play today.
One of my favorite places is Mexico, and I love this tournament. This is absolutely not how I wanted this to end."
Casper Ruud, on the other hand, withdrew against Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez. He stated on Instagram: "I'm sorry, I had to withdraw tonight.
I was hoping to recover from this stomach illness that appeared yesterday and tried everything I could to play until the very last moment."
Tommy Paul also withdrew against Marcos Giron due to stomach pains.
