Nicolas Massu, coach of Hubert Hurkacz, gave an interview to the media outlet Punto de Break. Among other things, he provided updates on his player, who made his return to competition in Madrid.

"We are now working to help him regain his usual competitive rhythm. After the accident he had at Wimbledon 2024, where bad luck and his determination to reach every ball came together, he went on to play in Toronto and Cincinnati.

He did well, but ended up playing a lot of matches. It takes time to fully recover, especially with back-to-back tournaments, so it's normal for some discomfort to arise from time to time.

We really wanted to prepare well after Miami; we needed a few weeks of calm training, without the pressure of wanting to play in every tournament.

The truth is, there’s little respite in the schedule—Monte Carlo and Munich were coming up—but we chose to take a month to prepare properly.

When coming back from an injury, it’s very common to feel slight discomfort at first, so the goal is for Hubi to be in perfect health by the end of the year. Here in Madrid, we didn’t manage to win the first match.

He needs more time on the court, more physical training to gradually adapt to competition. Patience is key—we’re on the right track.

Before the Wimbledon incident, he had practically never been injured, but this was a fall, something that happened—it wasn’t due to exhaustion. He’s very focused, he’s enthusiastic."

Present in Rome, Hurkacz will face Mattia Bellucci or Pedro Martinez in his opening match.

Since February 2022 and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Ukrainian sport has been heavily affected by human, structural and economic losses. Tennis has, of course, not been spared. While Ukrainian athletes have had to rethink their entire organization, an entire country, behind the scenes, has had to adapt and change its training conditions. This extends all the way to the highest level, where professional players have spoken out, trying as best they can to help their nation.

A tennis player's income depends solely on his sporting results. In the event of injury, the daily life of those far from the Top 100 can become extremely complicated.

As we move to the end of this month and also closing out the year I am wishing all of those following me a Merry Christmas and a Happy/Healthy New Year.

Let's make that wish for all 2000 plus players hoping for 5 wins each day. Hoping ŵhen we open the results page to see all green, and no red. And especially NO CANCELED matches.

From me and my rotti JAZ, I bid you all good night, and see you in...

why did tennis tonic void predictions on the match between Chwalinska and Huergo at the Quito tournament? The match was played to completion and on time. If TT feels the match is one sided, and of course it was, then don't put it up for prediction. This is getting irritating.

The finals are here, and we scramble for the best finish. I've been chasing "King" all year and I was able to shrink the spread a little. Skelp is also closing the gap.

Seasons best to all the regulars in our league.

Will you all be back in the new year.?

Steffi Graf completed a Golden Slam (not just a career Grand Slam) when she was 19. She is the only person to accomplish that, winning the four majors plus Olympic gold the same calendar year.
