Medvedev advances, Rune defeats Tsitsipas, first for Griekspoor: Tuesday's results at Indian Wells

In addition to Arthur Fils qualifying for the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Masters 1000, three other players joined the Frenchman at this stage of the competition. This is notably the case for Daniil Medvedev.
The Russian kept his hopes of a first title since Rome two years ago intact, thanks to a victory over Tommy Paul (6-4, 6-0). A finalist in the last two editions, the world No. 6 will now face Fils for a spot in the semifinals. Medvedev also won their only previous encounter at the Vienna tournament in 2023.
The match of the day pitted Holger Rune against Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Dane has never lost to the Greek in three encounters, but Tsitsipas recently claimed his first ATP 500 title in Dubai, the first of his career in that tournament category.
The match promised to be interesting. But as always in their head-to-head history, it was Rune who proved more solid in the crucial moments to secure the win (6-4, 6-4).
In the quarterfinals, Rune will face Tallon Griekspoor. The Dutchman was the first player in the draw to qualify on Tuesday.
In a match that was first delayed and then interrupted by rain, Griekspoor logically ended the run of Japanese qualifier Yosuke Watanuki (7-6, 6-1), who was worn down by the accumulation of matches.
Griekspoor has always beaten Rune in their two previous encounters, but they have never faced each other on hard court. Meanwhile, Tallon Griekspoor reaches the quarterfinals of a Masters 1000 for the first time in his career.
