Medvedev Eliminated in the Second Round in Miami
After a convincing tournament in Indian Wells, where he reached the semifinals, Daniil Medvedev was knocked out this Friday in the second round of the Miami Masters 1000 against Jaume Munar (6-2, 6-3).
Despite playing in conditions he usually enjoys (winner in 2023, semifinalist in 2024), the Russian was unrecognizable, with a disastrous first set where he committed 17 unforced errors and only 3 winners.
Frustrated with the quality of the balls, he complained to the supervisor during the break between sets: "Who authorized these balls to be used in a professional tournament?"
The second set, like the first, was perfectly controlled by Munar, who also took advantage of Medvedev's irritation to pull ahead (the Russian received a penalty point after two warnings at 3-1, 30-0).
With the break secured, Munar clinched the third victory of his career against a Top 10 player on his second match point. He will face Gaël Monfils or Jiri Lehecka in the third round.
Medvedev is almost certain to drop out of the Top 10 after the tournament (a first in two years), losing the points from his semifinal run last year.
