Medvedev explains his celebration: "When you lose two games, people say your career is over".

Medvedev explains his celebration: When you lose two games, people say your career is over.

Winner in two sets against Alex De Minaur this afternoon, Daniil Medvedev used a new celebration which he quickly explained after the match.

Beaten soundly on Sunday by Taylor Fritz, the Russian showed a completely different face today, which keeps him in contention at this Masters.

And he especially made a splash by covering his ears after the match point, then writing on the camera: "Block the noise".

Interviewed on court, Medvedev offered an explanation for this celebration: "I think it's used by footballers, for example Memphis Depay. It's mainly about social networks.

After my performance against Fritz and some comments, I tried to use them less. So I came onto the court with this mentality of blocking out the noise.

I didn't care what was happening on the court, I just tried to play. It was a good feeling. It's good to do that from time to time.

The more famous you become, the more fans you have, the more haters you have and the more attention you get. When you win everything, people think you're a God. When you lose two games, they say your career is over. Sometimes it's good to block all that out."
