Medvedev Explains Why He Said No to the Six Kings Slam
This week, Medvedev has chosen to set down his racket in Almaty, Kazakhstan, rather than at the highly publicized Six Kings Slam, an exhibition tournament featuring some of the biggest stars in world tennis. And yet, he too had received an invitation, following Jack Draper's withdrawal.
"I had given my word to the organizers in Almaty. And if I make commitments, I keep them. I have lost a lot of ranking points, so I need to play again and regain points. Almaty is an ATP 250 that is very close to an ATP 500. Moreover, there is almost no chance that I will qualify for the Masters, so I am playing everything I can play."
For the end of this season, Medvedev is betting everything on effort, trying to regain the consistency on hard courts that made him one of the best players in the world for a long period.
In Almaty, he successfully made his debut against Walton (7-5, 7-6) and will face Marozsan in the quarterfinals.
