Medvedev First to Qualify for Halle Tournament Semifinals

For his second grass-court tournament of the season, Daniil Medvedev seems to be finding his rhythm. The Russian, ranked 11th in the ATP standings, is having a strong week at Halle.
After securing the 400th victory of his ATP career against Quentin Halys (6-2, 7-5), the 29-year-old player, who also defeated Daniel Altmaier in the first round (6-3, 6-3), was hoping to reach the semifinals.
To do so, he had to overcome Alex Michelsen. Always dangerous on fast surfaces, the American had notably eliminated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the previous round (7-6, 7-5) and could have posed a threat to Medvedev in this match.
However, in the end, the latter controlled the game. Late in the first set, the 2021 US Open winner broke at the perfect moment, at 5-4 in his favor, to take the lead.
In the second set, Medvedev, still comfortable on returns, converted one of his seven break points (he earned eleven in total during the match), and with 17 winners (including 7 aces), the Russian left his opponent little room to counter.
Thus, the expected outcome prevailed, and Medvedev won in straight sets (6-4, 6-3). The player, who has yet to drop a single set this week, advances to his third semifinal of the season, following Marseille and Indian Wells.
As the first player to secure a spot in the semifinals, he will face the winner of the match between Flavio Cobolli and Alexander Zverev for a place in the final. A finalist on the German grass in 2022, Medvedev is still hoping to claim his first title of 2025, having not lifted a trophy since Rome in 2023.
