Medvedev: "I don't feel far from beating Sinner".
Daniil Medvedev takes on Jannik Sinner this Tuesday in the Wimbledon quarter-finals. The Russian won't be going into the match as the favorite, especially as he has now lost 5 consecutive matches to the Italian. But the world no. 5 doesn't think he's far off the world no. 1's level, and he's convinced of his ability to win. He explained this in a press conference.
Daniil Medvedev: "Yes, I've lost 5 times, but if I remember correctly, the first 4 were really close. So... was I unlucky or not? Like in Beijing, with two tie-breaks (7-6, 7-6). In Vienna, a pretty crazy match (7-6, 4-6, 6-3). In Turin, yes, he won more easily than the other times (6-3, 6-7, 6-1). Then, at the Australian Open, another close match (3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3). And finally, in Miami, he won easily (6-1, 6-2).
So I have a feeling I wasn't far off. But he did a good job of winning 5 in a row. This is the first time we've played on grass. I'll have to come up with something new. I hope I'll play well. The serve is important on grass. The more aces you serve, the better you feel. So it's going to be important for both of us.
And I'm going to try and see what I can do to surprise him, to put him in difficulty. Of course, he'll do the same. I hope it's going to be a good match and I'm going to do my best to win."
