Zverev was injured against Fritz: "I know what I have".

Le 09/07/2024 à 11h57 par Elio Valotto
Zverev was injured against Fritz: I know what I have.

Alexander Zverev had a difficult day on Monday. Facing Taylor Fritz in the last 16, the world number 4 played at a very good level (56 winners, 32 unforced errors, 20 aces).

Unfortunately, just as he was heading towards a solid qualification, he saw Fritz come back to win in 5 sets (4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-3).

Questioned in the press conference, Zverev didn't really explain his defeat by his opponent's superb level of play, but rather by his own physical state.

According to him, he was clearly diminished: "I know what I've got. I had an MRI before the match and I have bone edema and a torn knee capsule.

I couldn't train yesterday, I couldn't even walk normally. Today, I felt much better and that's why I went out on the pitch.

I knew that this year I had a good chance of doing something big at Wimbledon. I've never felt better on these courts, and I think I played my best tennis on grass.

I gave everything I had, I wanted to fight to the end and I'm proud of what I did despite my condition."
