Medvedev in Boss Mode Advances to Quarterfinals in Washington
After defeating Opelka in the previous round (3-6, 7-5, 6-1), Medvedev faced China’s Wu in the third round of the Washington tournament.
In top form, the Russian had no trouble dispatching his opponent, as evidenced by his first-serve points won percentage (93%). Throughout the match, the former world No. 1 didn’t concede a single break point and wrapped up the victory in just 1 hour and 9 minutes (6-3, 6-2).
Qualifying for his eighth quarterfinal this season, the 29-year-old is regaining momentum in the U.S. capital and will aim to reach another final here after his 2019 run. This also marks his third quarterfinal appearance in this tournament.
In the next round, he will face the winner of the match between France’s Moutet and Britain’s Evans.
