Medvedev reflects on his meltdown in New York: "An act of total despair"

A few weeks after his controversial defeat in New York against Benjamin Bonzi, Daniil Medvedev looks back on that moment of breakdown that went viral.
After episode 1 at Wimbledon, spectators at the American tournament were treated to episode 2 between Benjamin Bonzi and Daniil Medvedev at the US Open. Defeated by Benjamin Bonzi, the Russian left the court after multiple outbursts and racket throws.
Invited to revisit this significant defeat in an interview with the ATP, Medvedev stated:
"The broken racket at the end? It was just a bit of despair. And at the same time, I thought to myself: 'The fans will probably love that.' I was, of course, disappointed with the result, disappointed with how I felt. I wanted to vent my frustration, but I shouldn't have done it on the court. Plus, I had cramps and couldn't get up. All of that are really signs that things aren't going well. It was from that point that I understood I needed a fresh start."
