Medvedev Reflects on Miami Defeat: "Physically, I Wasn't 100% Ready"

Defeated in the first round in Miami by Munar (6-2, 6-3), Daniil Medvedev drops out of the top 10 for the first time since February 2023.
The Russian, who has had a tough start to the season, hopes to bounce back on clay—a surface that isn’t his favorite.
In an interview with Russian outlet Championat, the 2021 US Open winner discussed the physical struggles he faced in Florida:
*"Physically, in Miami, I wasn’t 100% ready. But I tried my best to step onto the court against Munar. Every day, I was improving. I had some issues after Indian Wells. These things happen. He played well. I wouldn’t have stepped onto the court if I thought I couldn’t win. I gave it everything. He played a great match, took advantage, and won convincingly."*
The 29-year-old also shared his thoughts on dropping out of the top 10 and the upcoming clay season:
*"I’m not too worried about my game overall. I showed in Dubai and Indian Wells that when I’m playing well, I can still win matches. I’ll keep doing my best. We have the clay season ahead. We’ll see—I won my last title on this surface (in 2023 in Rome), so I want to win it again. I can play more aggressively, but I don’t want to go into details. I try to adapt and even change my approach mid-match—sometimes attacking, sometimes defending. You have to assess psychology, fitness, tennis, and playing style. I’ve won some tournaments by attacking and others by defending."*
