Mensik ends Fils' run in Miami to advance to the semi-finals

Less than 24 hours after his victory over Alexander Zverev, Arthur Fils had to gear up this Thursday for his quarter-final against Jakub Mensik.
The Czech had not stepped onto the Florida courts since Monday and his third round against Safiullin, as he had advanced to the quarterfinals due to Machac's withdrawal.
Far fresher physically than the Frenchman, he claimed the first set in a tie-break despite a strong comeback from Fils (from 1-4 to 4-4).
In the second set, likely affected by his tough matches won against Tiafoe and Zverev, the world No. 18 couldn't keep up the pace, losing 7-6, 6-1.
Having qualified for the first Masters 1000 semi-final of his career at 19, Mensik became the youngest Czech player to achieve such a feat (since the creation of the ATP circuit in 1990), surpassing the record set by Tomas Berdych in 2005 in Paris at the age of 20.
He will face the winner of the quarter-final between Taylor Fritz and Matteo Berrettini in the semi-finals.
After this Sunshine Double, Arthur Fils will consolidate his position as the No.1 French player on Monday, being virtually ranked 15th in the world, his best career ranking.
