Mensik Honest About the New Generation: "In the End, the Focus Will Be on Who Becomes the Best"

Qualified for the semifinals in Miami after defeating Arthur Fils (7-6, 6-1), the rising star Mensik will face Fritz for a spot in the final.
At just 19 years old, the world No. 54 has been flawless in Florida. After beating the Frenchman in the semifinals, the young Czech reflected on his match in comments relayed by Tennis World Italia:
"First of all, I feel good after a match like this. This is definitely the best result I’ve had in my career so far, so I’m very happy.
Since the first round, I’ve been trying to stay focused and maintain it until the end of the tournament, which is always very tough. Because of that, the job isn’t done yet."
Born in 2005, Mensik is part of a new generation of talents, much like the Brazilian Fonseca:
"Right now, Jannik and Carlos are the best in the world, so it’s normal to hear a lot about them. Now, more and more new players are coming up on the tour.
For me, 2024 has been my first year as a professional, so I haven’t gotten much attention, unlike Joao Fonseca, who’s receiving a lot of attention this year.
I can’t explain it—maybe it’s because I’m from the Czech Republic, a smaller country."
Regarding the tournament atmosphere, the 19-year-old player touched on the South American vibe in Miami:
"Here in Miami, it feels like South America—I haven’t heard anyone speaking English in the city yet, everyone speaks Spanish.
It’s great to see new names emerging. We’re here to follow in the footsteps of Jannik and Carlos. In the end, the focus will be on who becomes the best player in the world."
