Mensik trapped by Tien at Masters Next Gen!
It was the first big sensation of the tournament. Considered by many as the favorite to win the title with Arthur Fils, Jakub Mensik has just lost to Learner Tien in 5 sets and just over 2 hours of play (4-3, 4-3, 2-4, 2-4, 4-3).
The Czech dominated the game overall (49 winners, 24 aces), but proved to be very inefficient on the important points (8 missed break points) and abnormally erratic (45 unforced errors).
On the other side of the court, the 19-year-old American held his nerve, accepting his opponent's me (only 13 winners). Opportunistic in the tie-breaks, all of which he won, he triumphed in the end, even though his opponent played better.
Pending the duel between Arthur Fils and Joâo Fonseca, Learner Tien surprisingly takes command of his pool.
