Millman on the run-up to the Australian Open: "Australian tennis is in a good position right now".

John Millman spoke exclusively to Tennis Temple about the state of Australian tennis in the run-up to the Australian Open.
In 2024, they won doubles gold at the Olympics with Matthew Ebden and John Peers, Alexei Popyrin won his first Masters 1000 in Montreal and Alex de Minaur played in the ATP Finals.
Millman says: "I think Australian men's tennis is in a very good place at the moment.
It seems to be what I like to say, strength in numbers. We have eight or nine players in the top hundred.
I think that pushes every player to improve. We've seen players like Popyrin, de Minaur and Thompson have the best season of their careers, which is incredible.
It's also great to see individual and doubles success.
I think it's actually a process that's been going on for some time. I think Lleyton Hewitt and Tony Roche have a lot to do with it.
The culture they created around men's tennis, particularly around the Davis Cup, has really inspired the new generation.
We also have some very good, hard-working coaches, like Mark Draper, Marinko Matosevic, Wayne Arthurs and Brent Larkham.
Adolfo Gutierrez, who obviously works with Alex de Minaur. I think there are some very good trainers out there.
