Monfils Exits in First Round at Queen’s
After an early elimination in Stuttgart against Alex Michelsen, Gaël Monfils suffered a second consecutive defeat at Queen’s, losing to Mackenzie McDonald (6-4, 6-4).
The match started poorly for the Frenchman, who was broken in the third game and forced to call a medical timeout due to discomfort in his right foot. With service stats far below his usual standards (50% first serves, 8 double faults), Monfils conceded three breaks, which were enough for his opponent to secure the win in 1 hour and 24 minutes.
McDonald, who came through qualifying, will face Holger Rune in the second round. As for Monfils, he will head to Spain next week to compete in the ATP 250 event in Mallorca.
