Monnet and Hesse Eliminated in the Second Round of the WTA 125 Contrexéville Tournament

After the completion of the first round, which unusually stretched over three days due to rain, the WTA 125 Contrexéville tournament is now back on schedule and has begun the round of 16 in the French town.
Of the four French players still in contention at this stage of the competition, two of them were on the courts Wednesday afternoon, hoping to secure their spot in the quarterfinals.
Unfortunately, the challenge proved too great for Carole Monnet. Facing Francesca Jones, the world No. 122 and fifth seed, the Frenchwoman was unable to compete. Ruthless on break points (4/4), the 24-year-old Briton advanced to the quarterfinals (6-1, 6-2) and will face Rebeka Masarova. The Swiss player, for her part, eliminated Laura Pigossi without hesitation (6-2, 6-1).
Another French player in action recently was Amandine Hesse. After defeating Léolia Jeanjean in the previous round, the 32-year-old fell to Lola Radivojevic (6-4, 6-0) and exited the tournament in the round of 16.
The Serbian, meanwhile, will play against Petra Marcinko. The last two remaining French players in the draw will take the court this Thursday. Varvara Gracheva faces Julia Riera, and Elsa Jacquemot will go up against Kathinka Von Deichmann.
