Mouratoglou on Alcaraz / Sinner: "That explains why their matches are always close".
In the latest episode of his series "L'œil du coach", broadcast on Tennis Majors, Patrick Mouratoglou spoke at some length about the current level of the world's best player, Jannik Sinner.
The French coach and consultant was also full of admiration for the difficulties the Transalpine has encountered in his face-to-face encounters with Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz beat him this year," he said, "because he can create more. He has that extra power and can match him in movement. But Alcaraz makes a lot of unforced errors, which is not the case with Sinner.
The matches between them have their ups and downs, with constant changes of pace. When Alcaraz is at his best, he can outplay Sinner, but he can't maintain that level throughout the match.
Sinner, on the other hand, remains stable, which explains why their matches are always so close."
Maybe Alcaraz's coaches need to sit him down and explain this simple concept in tennis. He's like Djokovic when he first rose to the higher levels, he would keep trying to hit these low percentage winners, often at the wrong time. Once he became patient and stopped doing that he started winning more consistently against the top players, i.e. Federer and Nadal.
Well, Sinner does have one of the best coaches in tennis in Cahill.
