Mouratoglou on Djokovic: "If he's not motivated, he shouldn't play"
Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Rome tournament and is coming off three consecutive losses, an unusual phenomenon for the Serb.
Patrick Mouratoglou, quoted by Tennis Actu, spoke about Djokovic's condition: "I was very surprised to see Novak play like that in Monte Carlo, then in Madrid. For someone like him, if he's not motivated, he shouldn't play.
He even seemed not to be trying to win. I'm not saying he can't play better, because of course he can. I felt he wasn't physically ready because he lacked motivation. No judgment from my side.
The question is: why did he play in this case? I don't understand. Motivation is the most important for him. After his successful 2023 season, he has been far from his best level, except during the Olympics.
He needs a clear goal to maintain concentration and motivation. Can he prepare for Roland-Garros without playing? Nothing replaces matches."
