Mouratoglou on the Davis Cup: "Leave Sinner Alone"
Facing the wave of criticism targeting Jannik Sinner after his withdrawal from the Davis Cup, Patrick Mouratoglou is stepping up to the plate.
While Italy will be seeking a third consecutive Davis Cup title, the absence of Jannik Sinner is making a lot of noise. The world number two chose to withdraw to prepare for the 2026 season, a decision deemed selfish by some fans and former players. But for others, this choice is of an irrefutable logic: preserving his body and his career, after a year of great intensity.
It was on LinkedIn that Patrick Mouratoglou decided to speak out:
"Leave Jannik Sinner alone. Players are not machines. They know when to rest and when to protect their future. The Davis Cup is a magnificent event, but it is no longer what it used to be. He has earned the right to choose what is best for him, and that must be respected."
Meanwhile, Sinner continues his journey in Vienna (ATP 500), where he faces Alex de Minaur in the semi-finals. A victory would propel him to another final, with a potential duel against Musetti or Zverev in sight.
