Sinner praises Bublik: "I congratulated him on the season he is having, surely the best of his career"
Jannik Sinner dominated Alexander Bublik in the quarter-finals of the ATP 500 in Vienna.
The world number 2 is still in contention in Vienna. In the Austrian capital, the number 1 seed got the better of Alexander Bublik for the third time in four meetings this season.
Still as solid on hard court, the Italian got the better of the ATP's 16th-ranked player (6-4, 6-4 in 1h16). Sinner did not concede a single break point in this match and reacted to his victory in recent hours.
"No matter what the scoreboard says, it was a very difficult match from the start. Facing Sascha (Bublik) in the quarter-finals of an ATP 500 is always a challenge, so I am very happy with today's (Friday) result.
I tried to return as many balls as possible, I felt he was having a good day on serve. I had the first break opportunities but I didn't convert them right away. I am very proud to be in the semi-finals of a tournament again.
I know Alexander well, I know he can be a very dangerous player, that's why I tried to stay solid throughout the match. At the net, I simply congratulated him on the season he is having, surely the best of his career.
He replied that it was, but that his season could have been even better if we hadn't faced each other so often this year! We know each other well, including outside of tournaments and the tour.
I can only wish him the best for the future, I believe he has changed his mentality enormously. He works much more than before, and it shows in his results which reflect his evolution," Sinner assured Punto de Break in recent hours. The Italian will face Alex De Minaur this Saturday.
