Mouratoglou on the Djokovic-Murray collaboration: "The only thing Novak needs is motivation".
It's already been several weeks since Novak Djokovic surprised the tennis world by deciding to hire Andy Murray as coach for the Australian Open 2025.
The two rivals, who have exchanged many battles on the court, will soon be on the same side of the net.
Interviewed by Tennis Majors, Patrick Mouratoglou gave his analysis of this surprising association: "A lot of people from the tennis world have asked me: 'Do you think it's a good idea or not?'.
My answer is, 'What does Novak need most?
I think the only thing Novak needs is motivation. After sensing that Rafa was on his last legs at the start of 2024, he couldn't find the motivation.
His motivation dropped because he won the fight against Roger and Rafa.
The only tournament where he played extremely well was the Olympics, where he had a lot of motivation to win.
He needs to find that thing deep inside him that will motivate him to want to win.
I think Andy has an idea of how he can challenge Novak to get him motivated again."
