Mouratoglou responds to Bublik on the level of the top 50: "I don’t think it was stronger five years ago"

During his match against Mensik in Madrid, Bublik vented his frustration about the rising level of the ATP top 50. During a changeover, the Kazakh player directly addressed the umpire, saying: "Do you remember when tennis was easy? Five years ago, it was super easy to play tennis."
These remarks sparked debate, particularly among tennis observers. Indeed, Patrick Mouratoglou, former coach of Serena Williams, shared a video on social media expressing his disagreement with the world No. 71:
"Even though I really like Bublik, I can’t agree with him. To me, it was more that he was losing. He was expressing his emotions in a funny way, saying some wild things. He claimed the top 50 is much stronger today than five years ago, but I don’t think that’s the case.
He can’t use Mensik as an example. Mensik isn’t in the top 10 yet because he’s come from far and it takes time to reach the top 10, but don’t forget he won a Masters 1000 in Miami a few weeks ago, beating Djokovic in the final, so his level is way above his ranking.
So he’s playing against a player whose ranking is below his actual level. That’s why he feels this way, but I don’t think it’s true for the top 50 in general. I think the level is extremely high—any player is in danger at any round—but I believe it was already like this five years ago."
