Stats: Ruud Joins His Father in a Unique Ranking

After his victory against Draper (7-5, 3-6, 6-4) in the Madrid final, Ruud claimed the biggest title of his career. A frequent finalist, including twice at Roland-Garros and once at Monte-Carlo, the 26-year-old player fulfilled one of his dreams by lifting the trophy at the Spanish tournament.

At the same time, he became the first Norwegian in history to win a Masters 1000 title. But this isn’t the first time he’s set a record for his nation. In 2019, the world No. 7 won his first Masters 1000 match in Rome and became the second player from his country to achieve this feat.

This situation turned out to be unprecedented, as the first player to accomplish it was none other than his father. Indeed, only Christian Ruud had won a Masters 1000 match before him. The 52-year-old notably reached the quarterfinals of Monte-Carlo in 1997.
