Moutet and Gaston Eliminated Early in Santiago Tournament
At the ATP 250 tournament in Santiago, the only two French players in the draw were on the court this Tuesday.
They are Corentin Moutet and Hugo Gaston, who are in Chile this week to conclude the South American clay court tour.
Scheduled at the same time on the court, both men experienced the same result. Facing Damir Dzumhur, Moutet put up strong resistance but was not consistent throughout the match.
The Bosnian, who has returned to the 90th spot in the ATP rankings, eventually won in three sets (6-2, 3-6, 6-2). A semifinalist in the same tournament last year, Moutet will drop at least to the 78th spot next Monday. Dzumhur will face a challenging second round against Mariano Navone.
For his part, Hugo Gaston had no better luck. Against Tomas Martin Etcheverry, a solid player on the surface, the Frenchman was unable to compete.
The Argentine advanced without much effort (6-2, 6-3) and will face Cristian Garin for a spot in the quarterfinals. There are no more French players left in contention in Chile.
