Moutet eliminated by Tien in the third round of the Australian Open
Corentin Moutet will not be in Melbourne for the second week. The Frenchman, who had beaten Popyrin and Krueger in his first two rounds, was unable to make it three.
Faced with Learner Tien, who had eliminated Daniil Medvedev in the previous round, the 25-year-old could do nothing and lost in three sets (7-6, 6-3, 6-3).
The tie-break in the first set was decisive. The Frenchman had one set point, saved eight of them before finally conceding 12 points to 10.
Behind the Frenchman, the 19-year-old finalist at the Next Gen ATP Finals in December, played his heart out, unaffected by his marathon match against Medvedev in the previous round.
Tien is in the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career. He will meet Lorenzo Sonego, who defeated Fabian Marozsan.
In the French clan, Moutet misses out on an opportunity to return to the last 16 at a Major, just a few months after reaching this stage of the competition at Roland-Garros (he also did so at the US Open 2022).
There will, however, be two French players in the second week of this Australian Open 2025. Ugo Humbert will have a tough match against Alexander Zverev, world number 2.
As for Gaël Monfils, he'll be looking to confirm his prestigious win over Taylor Fritz against the winner of the match between Shelton and Musetti.
