Müller upset by Seyboth Wild despite two match points
It's already over for Alexandre Müller at Indian Wells, defeated in his opening match by Thiago Seyboth Wild (4-6, 7-5, 7-6) after a battle lasting nearly three hours.
The Frenchman, who arrived in good form after a February where he reached the semifinals in Rio, was the favorite against Seyboth Wild, ranked 91st in the world. He made the best start to the match by taking the first set on the Brazilian's serve at 5-4.
But from there, the match became complicated for Müller.
Broken at the start of the second set, he managed to level the score at 5-5, before losing his serve once again and seeing his opponent calmly take the second set.
At 5-4 in the third set, the Frenchman earned two match points that he failed to convert.
It all came down to the tiebreak, and despite a double mini-break (5-2 with serve to follow), Müller made a series of errors, paving the way for Seyboth Wild, who didn't hesitate to close out the match on his second opportunity.
