Munar reflects on Spain's journey in the Davis Cup: "We demonstrated that we form a very united team"
Despite the absence of Carlos Alcaraz in the Final 8, Spain managed to qualify for the final. Captain David Ferrer's team did not have an easy journey throughout the year, but fought to win the title until the very last moment before losing to Italy. Spain was trailing 2-0 in Marbella against Denmark in September, before turning the situation around and securing their ticket to Bologna.
Munar praises the qualities of the Spanish Davis Cup team players
This mental strength also drove the Iberian nation during the final phase. Spain thus overturned the Czech Republic, winning the decisive doubles. In the semifinals, the team led in singles by Pablo Carreño Busta and Jaume Munar and by the pair Marcel Granollers/Pedro Martinez in doubles also eliminated Germany in a suspenseful match. Munar, precisely, praises the quality of his team.
"I came out of the match against Cobolli with some pain, to be honest. I think I played very well at the beginning, I managed to put him in difficulty for a large part of the match, but then, he took control and it became a bit more complicated for me. But that's the reality of most tennis matches and this competition. These are very close and competitive encounters, where small details make the difference.
We will always have this regret of not having played the doubles, but in hindsight, what we accomplished is more of a success than anything else.
The reality is that we have a better team than people think, very balanced, with very experienced players like Carreño Busta and Granollers.
I feel like number one due to the current ranking, but during the tournament, we demonstrated that we form a very united team, beyond my first or second place in the ranking. We are a team that works together impeccably and is very committed," assured Munar to Tennis World Italia.
